BSc(Hons) in Optometry
Optometrists are experts in vision and eye health. As members of an independent profession which can be accessed by the public directly, optometrists contribute to enhance the quality of life of Hong Kong people by improving eyesight and promoting eye health. Entry to the profession is controlled by legislation and graduates of the BSc (Hons) in Optometry are eligible for direct entry to Part I of the Optometrists Register.
This is a 4 year full-time professional programme leading to a registrable qualification to practise optometry in Hong Kong.
Programme Content
The programme essentially consists of basic sciences in Year 1, optometric and visual sciences in Year 2, clinical optometry in Year 3 and clinical training in Year 4.

The Optometry Clinic
The university has a unique facility – the Optometry Clinic. Third and final year students spend time in the Primary Care Clinic, Contact Lens Clinic, Follow-up Clinic, Paediatric and Vision Training Clinic Ocular Pathology Clinic and Vision Rehabilitation Clinic. Students also gain clinical experience in local and mainland hospitals.
Career Prospects
Salaries in optometry are attractive, and graduates have a choice of career options:
· Practise optometry as a salaried employee
· Establish their own optometric practice
· Work for multinational companies specialising in ophthalmic products
· Pursue a career in optometry and vision research
